SOW produced for a Year 10 BTEC/GCSE group, focusing on fine art textiles processes. Could be used for any Ks4 class, or even Year 9. Begins with drawing/painting skills and incorporates batik, shibori, weaving, felt-making processes in addition. This project runs from September - January but could be shortened by taking out some techniques. Has BTEC and GCSE assessment objectives written in, as I teach this to a class learning both endorsements. Numerous sketchbook examples, examples of levelled final pieces and weekly homework is also included.

Pupils begin by drawing a series of personal objects from primary source. Pupils research and respond to several artists, learning how to create a successful sketchbook and body of work focusing on ‘Identity’ and 2D techniques. Techniques include pencil, coloured pencil, oil pastel and watercolour, as well as teaching pupils about the design process, Assessment Objectives and annotation skills. Pupils learn how to plan and design a final piece, taking inspiration from one of their chosen artists. Unit of work designed primarily for KS4 GCSE/BTEC, although it could easily be adapted to use for KS3 also. Designed as an introductory ‘workshop’ course for pupils starting BTEC/GCSE in Year 9/10, focusing on basic 2D drawing and painting skills. Homeworks are included. This scheme of work is taught from September-December.
